Physical Model - Roof Perspective
junior studio | spring 2018 The project takes place at Douglas Russel Parks and Recreation in Arlington, Texas. Hidden within the park, there is a graveyard known as Lost Cemetery of Infants. Considering that it was a home for unwed mothers, there were bound to be some still births and other complications. With the water branch system within the park, students were asked to create a conference center and meditation place with an accommodation. The project examines the intention and seizing upon reflective and meditative part of the program. Towards that, the study of precedent Katsura Imperial Villa was an approach model to begin to analyze. The programs are all lifted on columns and on separated volumes to diminish the overall impact of the building of being compressed rather than intimate. Even though it is separated but unifies under one roof. The façade skin plays like a skin of a chameleon due to its materials of mirror that placed irregularly throughout the building and mimics the pattern of the existing trees in the park.
